Perpetrator of the Downing in Ukraine, of the Malaysian Airliner, Will Stay Hidden

MH-17 'Investigation': Secret August 8th Agreement Seeps Out
By Eric Zuesse

Regarding what caused the downing of the Malaysian airliner MH-17 in Ukraine on July 17th, the Ukrainian news agency UNIAN, reported in a brief Russian-language news story on August 12th, that four days earlier (August 8th) a representative of that nation's Prosecutor General office, Yuri Boychenko, had said that (as auto-translated by google), "the results [of the investigation] will be announced upon completion of the investigation and with the consent of all the parties who signed the corresponding agreement." This UNIAN report said that, "As part of the four-party agreement signed on August 8 between Ukraine, the Netherlands, Belgium and Australia [all of which nations are allies of the United States and are cooperating with its new Cold War against Russia], information on the investigation into the disaster Malaysian 'Boeing-777' will not be disclosed." In other words: the official 'investigation' is being carried out by four nations that, as U.S. allies, are hostile toward Russia. One of those four nations, Ukraine, is not only a prime suspect in possibly having shot this airliner down, but is currently waging a hot war to ethnically-cleanse the pro-Russian population out of southeastern Ukraine; and the initial 'news' reports in Western 'news' media regarding the downing of MH-17 had said that this airliner was probably downed by the local rebels there, who were trying to shoot down the Ukrainian Government's bombers that are constantly bombing them. Some Western 'news' reports even speculated that perhaps Russia itself had shot this airliner down. If the UNIAN news-report is correct, then there is no way that the 'investigation' will be able to be released to the public if it indicates that the Ukrainian Government (which, according to that news-report has veto power over the making-public of the study's findings) is blamed for having shot the airliner down.

On August 12th, another pro-Ukrainian-Government 'news' site,, headlined, as auto-translated by google, "GPU: The results of the investigation [into the] crash [of] the Boeing 777 will be released with the consent of the parties," and said, "Information about the accident MH17 in the Donetsk region will be published in obtaining the consent of all the parties that are involved in the investigation." UNIAN was cited there as gordonua's sole source. 'News' media didn't probe the matter further.

Until 23 August 2014, that seems to have been the last of the matter, as far as news reports were concerned, and both of those two news reports were just tiny squibs in the Russian language, published only in Ukraine, by supporters of the Obama-installed Ukrainian Government. The news was ignored both inside and outside Ukraine.

Then, on 23 August 2014, Global Research News published the first English-language news-report on this matter; it was based on the second Russian-language news-report, the one that had appeared at on August 12th. Global Research concluded from it that, "The Causes of the MH17 Crash are 'Classified'." Of course, this way of phrasing the matter is a slight oversimplification, because, actually, the findings will remain 'classified' only if, and to the extent that, the Ukrainian Government is found to have caused the airliner's downing. In other words: this 'investigation' will not be published unless the Ukrainian Government and the other three nations that are performing it agree unanimously to publish it.

So: imagine a murder-case in which 298 innocents are slaughtered, and in which there are only three suspects (here: Ukraine, the pro-Russian rebels, and Russia itself), and one of those three suspects has veto-power on the making-public of the 'investigation' into that crime. Well: this is that murder-case, and the veto-holding 'investigator' and suspect is Ukraine. Neither of the other two suspects holds any such veto-power over this 'investigation.'

In a sense, whether the official investigation into the downing will ever be made public is insignificant, just as would be any 'investigation' that is carried out by, or with veto-power from, one of the prime suspects in the crime that is being investigated.

The international public would obviously need to be fools in order for them to trust such an 'investigation' as that. Case closed?

President Obama got the economic-sanctions-increase against Russia, that he had wanted out of this shoot-down. Who needs any 'investigation' to determine this mass-killing's actual perpetrator? Certainly not Obama. Ultimately, it is he who caused it, because he was the person behind this ethnic-cleansing campaign, without which ethnic-cleansing campaign the airliner itself wouldn't have been downed.

The downing of this airliner goes straight back to the U.S. White House, which has already won what it wanted from it.

Those 298 corpses are just casualties of this U.S.-caused war, like the Ukrainians are casualties of it who live in the portions of Ukraine that had overwhelmingly elected in 2010 the Ukrainian President whom Obama ousted from office in 2014. Obama doesn't want a President like that elected ever again in Ukraine; so, those voters are being gotten rid of, and ethnic cleansing is how it's being done. And the residents there are likewise not being heard from in Western 'news' media, and nobody in the West is asking these victims what they think of the Ukrainian Government that Obama installed. Perhaps that's because they are increasingly becoming a guerilla army to defeat the regime that Obama installed.

As to the specific operation that downed the plane, there is already a lot more information about that than the official 'investigation,' if that's ever published, is likely to reveal, and it points clearly to the Ukrainian military as the perpetrator, in yet another of their 'false flag' operations. And unlike the Ukrainian Government's charges that rebels shot it down by mistake, Ukraine shot it down with deadly purpose and knowing full well what they were doing.

Russia will not ship S-300 MPADS to Syria. What else could we expect from collaborationists?

On the 11th of August Russian news agency Interfax reported that the Deputy Head of the Federal Service for Military-Technical Co-operation Konstantin Biryulin told that the Russian S-300 ant-aircraft missile systems intended for Syria would be destroyed.

According to Biryulin, the decision to cancel the contract with Syria for the supply of S-300 was taken by the Russian political authorities following the sanctions imposed by UN. Here is meant the old agreement between Russia and Syria for purchase of 4 S-300 systems’ batteries for the total worth of 900 millions USD. According to Israeli sources one of the payments in line with this contract was transferred by Syria to Russia through Vneshekonombank (VEB) in 2013. Mr. Ruslan Pukhov, the Director of the Strategy and Technology Analysis’ Center and a member Public Council by Defense Ministry reports that Russia stopped the shipment of these systems because on the one hand they are useless against armed units of the opposition, on the other hand under given circumstances they are not likely to be applied against the military planes of NATO whereas their appearance in Syria could only irritate the West.

Comments by the 1st Secretary of RCWP Viktor Tyulkin

V.T. The move was basically expected. The bourgeois authorities of Russia have been quietly giving up our ally, betraying him. In fact this is not just a refusal to help, a breach of a signed contract, this is a case of aiding and abetting to the impudent Fascism of the USA and Europe. The situation in Syria has not improved either since 2010 when the contract was signed, or since 2013 when Russia was still confirming her obligations to execute the contract. In fact there has been observed a growing number of victims, the bandits have been granted overt and ever increasing political, organizational, military and financial aid from USA and NATO. The supplies of chemical weapon have been brought out of the country and utilized whereas the suggestions to resolve the Syrian issue by means of a direct military intervention (like the one by the French President F. Holland) are still in effect. More than that: the imperialists of the USA and the European Union have organized the state coup in Ukraine and using the Kiev junta as a tool they have unleashed a wide-scale punitive operation in the South-East of Ukraine. The simultaneous destabilization in Iraq has been involving additional reactionary forces to the Middle-East conflict. The current situation in the world as well as the sad and tragic experience of Yugoslavia, Iraq, Libya tells us that only the possession of an effective defensive weapons like the S-300 MANPADS could to some extent deter a potential aggressor. Nevertheless, the Russian bourgeoisie that has been constantly bargaining with the West, while refusing to supply Syria with the anti-aircraft weapon, has deprived them of any hope to defend themselves against the massacre from the air.

The class meaning of this move is quite obvious: while being put under the pressure of Fascist elements of the world Imperialism and while not having the courage and the resources to help properly our brothers in the South-East of the Ukraine, Putin has been sacrificing his remoter friends.

Our prognosis of the events in the world is extremely poor. Fascism has been growing stronger, the situation has been deteriorating, whereas the probability of the world war has been ever obvious. The extreme Ukrainian nationalists Bandera style have been roistering in the east of Ukraine. What about Russia? RCWP states that the Russian nationalists Vlasov style are no better than the Ukrainian ones. One obviously cannot make anti-fascists from Russian nationalists.

The struggle against Fascism should be undertaken by the wide masses of working people.

Production of S-300 missiles in Russia to be stopped within year — source

MOSCOW, August 22. /ITAR-TASS/. Production of Russia’s S-300 missile systems will be fully stopped next year, a high-ranking source in the Russian military-industrial complex told ITAR-TASS.
This also concerns export versions, he added. “I want to stress that the production of components for S-300 will continue and will even grow in the coming years,” he said.
The source said S-300 missiles would be replaced with a number of new generation systems. “S-400 becomes the main system for our Armed Forces. S-300 missiles remain in operation, and their production will not be halted in a moment,” he said.
The source said the marketing policy of Russian producers of air defense systems is now aimed at advancing S-400 to foreign markets.
“We have had a more efficient system for several years, I mean S-400. What is the point in producing things that don’t meet today’s demands of a customer?” he asked, saying S-400 supplies abroad would begin no earlier than in 2016.
Redirecting deliveries
S-300 Favorite missile systems destined for Syria may be delivered to Egypt, a Russian high-ranking defense industry source told ITAR-TASS on Friday.
Egyptian partners have expressed interest in S-300 purchases. The system may be re-equipped for Egypt in a short period of time, the source added.
If an agreement is reached, software and some units and systems of "Syrian" S-300s will be changed, he said.
Cairo bought about $400 million worth of ammunition from Moscow over the past ten years. A considerable volume of the military enginery bought from the Soviet Union is still in service in Egypt, the source said.
Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates may provide substantial financial aid for Egypt, he added.

Articles On alleged beheading of James Foley by ISIS Terrorists

You will find multiple articles discussing James Foley "beheading" video in this post:

1) James Foley Beheading Video Has Play-Acting Portions – Video Experts Say

By Athena Yenko | August 22, 2014

Video experts observed that the video showing the actual beheading of US journalist James Foley was so professionally produced and well-scripted, to the extent that portions of it appeared to be just being acted out.

Two video experts were one in observing that portions of the purported video were give-aways that the beheading video was intended primarily for propaganda purposes.

One security expert, who had credible experience of scrutinizing videos of beheading, noted a very strange thing about Foley's video - in the seconds before the executioner jab the knife into Foley's neck, there was no single sign that he was terrified.

"My experience of these things is when the knife gets close the knees buckle and you become like a rag doll, whereas this guy seemed to sit upright. It could be that that particular knife wasn't the one that killed him, that that was a play-acting thing," the expert told The Times.

After the part where the executioner was shown cutting Foley's head, the video fades.

The next part of the video already showed Foley's decapitated head while he was upturned back. His hands were handcuffed. But his right ankle already had bruises hinting that he had been kneeling on the ground longer than what was shown in the video. And most importantly, a different looking knife lies on the ground, next to Foley's corpse.

"The guy is obviously dead but it may be that particular scene was acted and that was why he is staying stiff," the security expert noted.

Joe Fields, of Breakthru Productions, a recording studio in London, on the other hand noted that the video was well-produced as both Foley and the masked man appeared to be speaking following well-scripted lines.

What was noticeable for Fields was the battery-powered microphone clipped to the front of Foley's robe. He said that the microphone looks like a professional one used in television studios so as the audio can be recorded without the need of editing or sound dubbing.

With all these elements present, it could be considered that the man masked in black, speaking with a British accent, was not the one who killed Foley. Rather, the man was just acting out the part.

In a separate report from The Guardian, linguistic experts had also offered their opinions of the masked man.

Prof Paul Kerswill, a linguistics expert at the University of York, described the man's accent as multicultural London English which is people from all kinds of backgrounds who mix in the East End, a new kind of cockney.

Dr Claire Hardaker, a linguistics experts at Lancaster University, said she was hearing a British accent, from the south, and probably from London, Kent or Essex.

Prof Peter Neumann, director of the International Centre for the Study of Radicalisation, at King's College London said that the man with the British accent was specifically chosen by the militants to create the utmost impact against the west.

"This is significant because it signifies a turn towards threatening the west. They are saying we're going to come after you if you bomb us," Neumann said.

2) How many fingers am I holding up? or, Did you even see the video?

Posted on 23 Aug 2014

I didn’t want to watch another video of someone getting their head cut off. I was barely seventeen when video of WSJ journalist Daniel Pearl’s beheading was uploaded on the internet. The brutality of the Syrian Civil War, the children dead in pieces in Gaza, all of the other images of ISIS uploaded on to the internet were too much blood for me. And the fact that the video of James Foley kneeling in the hot sun next to a menacing, knife-wielding man was immediately yanked off of the internet meant for sure this video was more brutal than all the rest. Considering the sheer volume of grotesque imagery available on Youtube and Twitter, that which we cannot see must be more truly horrible. I asked a comrade if he saw the video, and he told me no, because that sort of thing wasn’t good for the mind. Everyone else said the same thing. And I had no desire to watch it. I could let others tell me about it.
But here’s my comrade telling me to watch it, go ahead and watch it. He sends me a live leak video. I watch it, and if James Foley really is dead, there is no conclusive evidence here – there is barely any gore, in fact no active representation of fatal violence (not counting Obama’s speech at the beginning). The only blood in the video is in the still image of a decapitated body whose face is covered in blood. And there is no way to say that it’s James Foley. As the shrouded menace grabs James Foley by the chin and begins to saw away at his neck, the movement is exaggerated and there is no blood. Fade to black. Fade up on the photo of a body that may be Foley’s. Fin.
Journalists now are either saying they have not seen the video or they are saying that the video clearly shows the beheading of James Foley.

A Jumbotron-sized screen in downtown Beijing shows the execution of American journalist James Foley on a continuous loop.
A gigantic video screen in downtown Beijing is showing gruesome footage of the beheading of American journalist James Foley by Muslim extremists and images of racially charged riots in the Missouri town of Ferguson. – “In busy Beijing, graphic video of James Foley’s beheading is shown over and over on a giant screen”  (NY Daily News)
…In the video Foley delivers a statement calling on his friends and family to “rise up against my real killers, the U.S. government.”
Then the ISIL member makes a statement. Speaking in what may possibly be a British accent, he identifies Foley and says his death is a direct result of American intervention in Iraq.
“So any attempt by you Obama, to deny the Muslims of living in safety under Islamic caliphate will result in the bloodshed of your people.”
He then beheads Foley. -“Video shows ISIL beheading of photojournalist James Foley” (Politico)
In the video posted Tuesday on YouTube, Foley is seen kneeling next to a man dressed in black. Foley reads a message, presumably scripted by his captors, that his “real killer” is America.
“I wish I had more time. I wish I could have the hope for freedom to see my family once again,” he can be heard saying in the video.
He is then shown being beheaded. -“Video shows ISIS beheading U.S. journalist James Foley” (CNN)
There is even an article in the BBC titled “Experts warn of trauma after watching Foley death video” – because while the footage of children hoisting decapitated heads high in Raqaa and stills from mass executions are brutal, sure, for some reason they don’t really compare to the trauma and brutality of watching a white American man allegedly begin to be murdered.
I don’t really know what has happened to James Foley, but the question of why we should pretend this video shows something that it does not deserves to be answered. Why the swift media blackout of the footage? Why the possible play-acting? Why the fake knife?
Maybe this all boils down to facts, and the refusal to share them with us, the refusal to follow-up on sources. Why was the media telling us that he was being held by the Syrian government until this video was released?
Screen Shot 2014-08-23 at 4.42.54 PMw-hEoItC.jpg-small
Why are they still saying that?  Why is this man’s disappearance and alleged murder a casus belli that we are not allowed to review, one that journalists are steadfastly refusing to investigate?
And of course, we should ask the producer of this video – allegedly an ISIS guy – why bother to put something up that looked so weird, possibly fake? The organizing strategy of ISIS is clearly one of terror and nightmarish presentations of gore. Why did they leave it out for the Americans?
And now I really have to ask – how many fingers am I holding up? Do you see three? You’re wrong, it’s four. Try harder.

The terrorists fighting us now? We just finished training them.

No, the enemy of our enemy is not our friend.

In recent years, President Obama, his European friends, and even some Middle Eastern allies, have supported “rebel groups” in Libya and Syria. Some received training, financial and military support to overthrow Muammar Gadhafi and battle Bashar al Assad. It’s a strategy that follows the old saying, “The enemy of my enemy is my friend,” and it has been the American and allied approach for decades in deciding whether to support opposition groups and movements.

The problem is that it is completely unreliable — and often far worse than other strategies. Every year there are more cases in which this approach backfires. The most glaring and famous failure was in Afghanistan, where some of the groups taught (and supplied) to fight the Soviet Army later became stridently anti-Western. In that environment, Al Qaeda flourished and established the camps where perpetrators of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks were trained. Yet instead of learning from its mistakes, the United States keeps making them.

Washington and its allies empowered groups whose members had either begun with anti-American or anti-Western views or found themselves lured to those ideas in the process of fighting. According to interviews with members of militant groups, such as the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria’s Al Nusra Front (which is aligned with al Qaeda), that is exactly what happened with some of the fighters in Libya and even with factions of the Free Syrian Army.

“In the East of Syria, there is no Free Syrian Army any longer. All Free Syrian Army people [there] have joined the Islamic State,” says Abu Yusaf, a high-level security commander of the Islamic State, whom The Washington Post’s Anthony Faiola wrote about last week.

The Islamic State is the most successful group for now, controlling the main areas of Syrian oil and gas fields. It has also acquired large amounts of cash, gold (from banks in the areas they control) and weapons in its fight against the armies in Syria and Iraq. “When the Iraqi Army fled from Mosul and the other areas, they left behind all the good equipment the Americans had given them,” Abu Yusaf says.

“From IS to the Mahdi army you see groups that basically are not our friends but who became more powerful because we have handled the situations wrong,” says a senior U.S. security official, who spoke under the condition of anonymity.

Some European and Arab intelligence officials also voiced their worries and frustration about what they call the mistakes the United States has made in handling the uprisings in Arab states. “We had, in the early stages, information that radical groups had used the vacuum of the Arab Spring, and that some of the people the U.S. and their allies had trained to fight for ‘democracy’ in Libya and Syria had a jihadist agenda — already or later, [when they] joined al Nusra or the Islamic State,” a senior Arab intelligence official said in a recent interview. He said that often his U.S. counterparts would say things like, “We know you are right, but our president in Washington and his advisers don’t believe that.” Those groups, say Western security officials, are threats not only in the Middle East, but also in the United States and Europe, where they have members and sympathizers.

The official’s account has been corroborated by members of the Islamic State in and outside the Middle East, including Abu Yusaf, the military commander. In several interviews conducted in the last two months, they described how the collapse of security during Arab Spring uprisings helped them recruit, regroup and use the Western strategy – to support and train groups that fight dictators — for their own benefits. “There had [also] been … some British and Americans who had trained us during the Arab Spring times in Libya,” said a man who calls himself Abu Saleh and who only agreed to be interviewed if his real identity remained secret.

Abu Saleh, who is originally from a town close to Benghazi, said he and a group of other Libyans received training and support in their country from French, British, and American military and intelligence personnel — before they joined the Al Nusra Front or the Islamic State. Western and Arab military sources interviewed for this article, confirmed Abu Saleh’s account that “training” and “equipment” were given to rebels in Libya during the fight against the Gadhafi regime.

Abu Saleh left Libya in 2012 for Turkey and then crossed into Syria. “First I fought under what people call the ‘Free Syrian Army’ but then switched to Al Nusra. And I have already decided I will join the Islamic State when my wounds are healed,” the 28-year-old said from a hospital in Turkey, where he is receiving medical treatment. He had been injured during a battle with the Syrian Army, he said, and was brought to Turkey with false documents. “Some of the Syrian people who they trained have joined the Islamic State and others jabhat al Nusra,” he said, smiling. He added, “Sometimes I joke around and say that I am a fighter made by America.”

For a long time, Western and Arab states supported the Free Syrian Army not only with training but also with weapons and other materiel. The Islamic State commander, Abu Yusaf, added that members of the Free Syrian Army who had received training — from the United States, Turkey and Arab military officers at an American base in Southern Turkey — have now joined the Islamic State. “Now many of the FSA people who the West has trained are actually joining us,” he said, smiling.

These militants are preparing for the day that Western governments catch on. “We do know the U.S. will go after the Islamic State at some stage, and we are ready for it. But they should not underestimate the answer they will get,” said an IS sympathizer in Europe who goes by the name Abu Farouk. He added that the “unconditional support” of the United States toward the government of outgoing premier Nuri al-Maliki, which he says has oppressed Iraqi Sunnis, and America’s “pampering Iran,” which is mainly Shia, made the Islamic State a more attractive alternative for some Sunnis who felt angry about double standards.

“Thanks to the Arab spring and the West fighting all these rulers for us, we had enough time to grow and recruit in the Middle East, Europe and the U.S,” Abu Farouk said. Then he paused for some seconds and smiled. “Actually, we should say, thank you, Mr. President.”

Asad AbuKhalil: "For three years, Western correspondents in the Middle East & the American pundits have been promoting a Syrian 'revolution'

 Asad AbuKhalil:

"For three years, Western correspondents in the Middle East & the American pundits have been promoting a Syrian 'revolution' In the course of this promotion, they lied & fabricated & gave their readers a totally different picture of what is happening on the ground.

They even invented a media phenomenon, called the Free Syrian Army, when no such army really existed beyond various gangs in different places using various names for their battalions & telling American agents on the ground in Turkey what they want to hear to get money & weapons.

For three long years, Western correspondents in Beirut created a fantasy of a revolution where the armed groups are all run by two secular women operating from downtown Damascus. The danger of the fanatical Bin Ladenite groups have been belittled from the very beginning & even recently those same correspondents have tried to promote Nusrah Front (classified by the US State Department as a terrorist organization), which is the OFFICIAL branch of Al-Qa'idah, damn it. This is the real Syrian 'revolution': a variety of terrorism & Jihadism. Even the Saudi-funded Jihadi front, Islamic Front, was promoted as a moderate version of terrorist Jihadism.

All those who engage in such propaganda are culpable in the kidnapping & murder of James Foley. They basically told unsuspecting American journalists that the Syrian rebels are reasonable friendly forces & that they would welcome the foreign press.

All the cases of kidnapping & murder of foreign journalists were at the hands of Syrian rebels. All of them. Take the case of James Foley: the Western media covered up his kidnapping & pretended that he was in fact held at a detention center in Damascus. Look at this lie here from last year. 'After a five-month investigation inside Syria & the wider Middle East, GlobalPost & the family of missing American journalist James Foley now believe the Syrian government is holding him in a detention center near Damascus.' Only recently this paper had to retract its lie but only in the most vague way: 'Editor's note: Since the publication of this story further investigations have been conducted on James Foley's kidnapping, pointing in a different direction. The latest public information is available here. ' But worse: even after the terrorist ISIS claimed responsibility for his beheading, there are Western correspondents (I am told that Kim Ghattas of the BBC is one of them) who are peddling more lies & claiming without a shred of evidence that the Syrian government surrendered Foley to ISIS. Shame on all of those journalists who basically collaborated on the promotion of lies that were to the benefit of ISIS & its propaganda machine."

History and Key Writers of Feminist Theories

"Feminism" is about equality of the sexes, and activism to achieve such equality for women. Not all feminist theorists have agreed about how to achieve that equality and what equality looks like. Here are some of the key writers on feminist theory, key to understanding what feminism has been all about. I've listed them in chronological order so it's easier to see the development of feminist theory.

Rachel Speght

1597 - ?
Rachel Speght was the first woman known to have published a women's rights pamphlet in English under her own name.

Olympe de Gouge

1748 - 1793
Olympe de Gouges, a playwright of some note in France at the time of the Revolution, spoke for not only herself but many of the women of France, when in 1791 she wrote and published the Declaration of the Rights of Woman and of the Citizen. Modeled on the 1789 Declaration of the National Assembly, defining citizenship for men, this Declaration echoed the same language and extended it to women, as well. In this document, de Gouges both asserted woman's capability to reason and make moral decisions and pointed to the feminine virtues of emotion and feeling. Woman was not simply the same as man, but she was his equal partner.

Mary Wollstonecraft

1759 - 1797
Mary Wollstonecraft's A Vindication of the Rights of Woman is one of the most important documents in the history of women's rights. Wollstonecraft's personal life was often troubled, and her early death of childbed fever cut short her evolving ideas. Her second daughter, Mary Wollstonecraft Godwin Shelley, was Percy Shelley's second wife and author of the book, Frankenstein.

Judith Sargent Murray

1751 - 1820
Judith Sargent Murray, born in colonial Massachusetts and a supporter of the American Revolution, wrote on religion, women's education, and politics. She's best known for The Gleaner, and her essay on women's equality and education was published a year before Wollstonecraft's Vindication.

Fredrika Bremer

1801 - 1865
Frederika Bremer, a Swedish writer, was a novelist and mystic who also wrote on socialism and on feminism.

Elizabeth Cady Stanton

Elizabeth Cady Stanton
1815 - 1902
One of the best-known of the mothers of woman suffrage, Elizabeth Cady Stanton helped organize the 1848 woman's rights convention in Seneca Falls, where she insisted on leaving in a demand for the vote for women -- despite strong opposition, including from her own husband. Stanton worked closely with Susan B. Anthony, writing many of the speeches which Anthony traveled to deliver.

Anna Garlin Spencer

1851 - 1931
Anna Garlin Spencer, nearly forgotten today, was, in her time, considered among the foremost theorists about the family and women. She published Woman's Share in Social Culture in 1913.

Charlotte Perkins Gilman

Charlotte Perkins Gilman wrote in a variety of genres, including "The Yellow Wallpaper," a short story highlighting the "rest cure" for women in the 19th century; Woman and Economics, a sociological analysis of women's place; and Herland, a feminist utopia novel.

Sarojini Naidu

1879 - 1949
A poet, she led a campaign to abolish purdah and was the first Indian woman president of the Indian National Congress (1925), Gandhi's political organization.
